 Dr. Pedro I. “Pete” Rodriguez, Sr. VP of Space Programs
Dr. Rodriguez recently retired from NASA as Marshall Space Flight Center’s Assistant Chief Engineer. Dr. Rodriguez will be responsible for managing current activities and expansion of the company’s engineering services at NASA.
Dr. Rodriguez earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez in 1976 and his master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1982. He earned his doctorate in civil engineering from the University of Mississippi in Oxford in 1997. He has received a number of awards including the NASA Exceptional Service Medal and NASA Invention Award, Silver Snoopy Award, Director’s Commendation Award, the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award and the Alumni of Achievement Award from the University of Alabama, and the Puerto Rico Senate Award for Engineering Achievement (Senate Resolution Number 411).
Kris McGuire, CEO and founder of Victory Solutions, Inc., has applied her talents and interest into various community efforts in Alabama. A 1988 graduate of St. Mary’s College in Maryland with a B.A. in Liberal Arts, Kris is active in the art community, chairs fund-raising events for different Alabama politicians and is a member of several committees for local non-profit projects; all of which require political savvy and the understanding of the political process in Washington, D.C. She has been successful for 5 years in raising millions of dollars for non-profit organizations in her area. Her love and understanding of the political process is evident in the number of campaigns and elections she has worked on in past years.
Kris has worked extensively with almost every member of the Alabama delegation on various issues. She is currently working on the voting rights of the military stationed overseas. She has worked with OSD and different Congressional and Senate members. She is well respected by both sides of the aisle for her tenacity and passion for her work.
For the last 3 years she has had the opportunity to play a major role in a start-up company and took an active lead in the business development and client servicing. She has built high-level relationships with CEO’s throughout Alabama and the Washington D.C. areas. Kris has a growing network of political contacts with high level businessmen and businesswomen in Alabama and Washington D.C. She has been mentored by the most seasoned business developers in the North Alabama area.
Kris started Victory Solutions, LLC. in 2004 as a Disabled Viet Nam Era Veteran (SDVO), Woman Owned, Small Business providing services in strategic planning, organizational development, sales and marketing consulting, and new project development. In 2006 she incorporated the business and expanded the focus of her company by providing high technology engineering support services and new business development.
James W. (Pete) Apple, Senior Vice President has over 40 years of government contracting and program management experience. Over the years Pete has worked extensively with every member of the Alabama delegation on various issues and is highly respected by each of them.
In 1986, after retiring from McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Company (MDAC) in St. Louis, MO as Senior Director of 25 Domestic and International Field Offices, Pete joined Nichols Research Corporation (NRC) in Huntsville, AL as Corporate Vice President, Business Development and Government Relations.
Upon acquisition of Nichols Research Corporation by Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) Pete was appointed as Director of Government Relations, Army / Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Programs.
For the last three years Pete has supported Victory Solutions, Inc. as mentor and consultant. In June 2006 he joined Victory Solutions, Inc. as Partner and Senior Vice President.
During Pete’s long and successful career, he has been looked up to as a mentor by all sectors of the community. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Directors for the ARC of Madison County, the Advisory Board for the Huntsville Botanical Gardens, and the Board of Trustees for the Huntsville Constitution Village and Early Works Museum.
Shane Doty, President
joined VSI in August 2006. He received his start in private industry & engineering support services after finishing active duty Air Force. He draws on his experiences in Systems Engineering and Analysis for his work in Huntsville, AL to provide programmatic expertise, weapons program enhancement and product delivery.
Shane has combined experience in military, engineering, and management programs. He has diverse Systems Engineering, Analysis and Integration experience in Missile Defense Systems Architectures, models and simulations, program development and acquisition. Through his active duty Air Force experience in Space and Missile Operations, continued through his current USSTRATCOM Staff Reserve position, he has provided Military Space Force Enhancement and Missile Defense program implementation for Space Command and USSTRATCOM.
Shane is an experienced manager in the Aerospace industry; with a Masters Degree in Aerospace Science from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, and a Bachelors Degree from the University of Alabama.
David Alan Smith, Vice President
has over 24 years of experience in human and civil space program management, development, and integration for NASA and commercial customers.
Over the last 11 years with the Boeing Company he has been Senior Manager of Space Exploration Advanced Programs where he led NASA related Ares I/V research and development projects ranging from CONOP simulations to composite structure applications. He served as Program Manager for new business development that included capturing the Marshall Space Flight Center Ares I Instrument Unit Avionics Contract and establishing a new Boeing office in New Orleans to support Michoud Assembly Facility production work. As a part of Boeing's Phantom Works organization he led Boeing efforts to develop a sustainable lunar and Mars space transportation architecture for NASA's Constellation Program and to design a commercial resupply capability for International Space Station (ISS). He was also a Boeing Associate Technical Fellow in the area of System Design and Integration.
An experienced program and business development manager, David has a Bachelors Degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Minor in International Affairs. He has a number of human space transportation patents and is the author of 14 published papers on human space architectures and transportation systems. David is a Director of National Space Club-Huntsville and serves on the board of a number of Huntsville charities.
